New blogsite in time for Christmas!

After reading about blogposts and even complete blogs being disappeared as well as having a couple of meme drops get the virtual shitcan, I decided to finally migrate my blog to my own site.

The migration wasn't perfect, partially because of the template I chose (mainly some fonts as well as text within a meme drop that ended up on the front page), but I think it's mostly okay.

That said, take a gander over at https://midwestchick.com

Since it is a new work in progress, let me know what you think about the colors, fonts, etc.  I want it to be as readable as possible.

I've been running it parallel to this site while I get used to Wordpress and everything that was here, is there.

There's still a lot to learn but if you stop learning, you start dying.

If I'm on your sidebar, please update.

If you're NOT on the sidebar on my new site, let me know over there--I had to do that part all by hand.

"but if you stop learning, you start dying."

Ain't that the truth?
*The color & font are easily readable. Maybe add a small pic related to the title of the post for some visual enticement.

Whoopsie on the last post. I usually won't read stuff with white font and dark backgrounds especially if a black background. I find it difficult on my eyes.

Looks good to me - the default font is more readable there than the blogspot standard. I've updated my bookmark. And I think you are well-served ditching blogger.

Hey Booms--Hopefully the revised background will work!

Jess--Thanks and thanks! Yes, it's getting a little weird, especially after I heard that some blogs have been disappeared. Plus it's fun to learn new stuff!

Must be the season. I'm busy setting up a replacement web site as well. Won't advertise on your site though

I tried to post a comment, but then wordpress wanted me to login, and when I did that it said 'Duplicate comment detected; it looks as though you’ve already said that!' so I dunno if it got through or not.

Okay, I can post comments on this site, but Wordpress complains when I try to post a comment on your new site. I don't think Wordpress likes me.

Midwest Chick said...

Anon--Definitely tis the season! And if you want to advertise, all is well. Or if I can help, let me know!

Chuck (apologies for saying Charles at the other place)--I've got one comment from you over at the new digs.

Chuck or Charles, it's all the same.

Keep us posted as to how it works. I'll stop over and visit now.
I've gotta find some self hosting sooner or later. Just too much going on. Merry Christmas!!

Midwest Chick said...

Hey Irish. It honestly hasn't taken that much time to set up. I'll ping you backchannel with some details. Merry Christmas!!

I've always hated the 'continue reading' setups, but I'll follow you where ever you go. Merry Christmas.

I am not sure which to visit since I find this blog by google

Thanks for the heads-up. Keep the morale boosts coming.

Merry Christmas to you and yours!

bk--It keeps things a little neater. Thanks for coming along regardless!

Avraham--the direct URL is https://midwestchick.com This blogsite won't be maintained so hopefully you can just bookmark the new site.

JL--Will do my best and am glad that my posts are considered to be a morale boost!! Merry Christmas to you and yours as well!

Avraham--Great! It's the easiest way to find it!

NFO--Awesome--thanks!

KurtP--Blogger doesn't update any blog that's hosted elsewhere, as far as I can tell. So if you have your sidebar set up for 'most recent' Wordpress blogs won't ever show at the top, even if they've posted new content. It started four or five months ago, I think.

Roger, the real King of France, set up his blog to show the full post plus comments right underneath. I vaguely remember a blog with only one sentence and the a 'continue reading' link.
But I wonder if anyone in the bloggerverse ever did a user preference survey to see what the readers want. I've been a sysadmin since the 90s, and I don't remember a single website ever that tailored itself to the users instead of vice-versy. It's weird when you think about it. It's like the internet isn't fully integrated into our realities yet. Or maybe it's a symptom of our times that we're expected to accept things that are screamed at us, like global warming or gluten or non-accumulative food dyes lol.

bk--Different strokes for different folks. I'm still learning Wordpress (been at it a whole week and think I'm doing pretty good on the learning curve). The only thing that's bothering me is the comments box inside the post rather than on the post's front page. The template I chose has options so I'll work on it.
