I couldn't be more proud

This morning my nephew, so made by the bonds of tears and time with his mother, graduates from Recruit Training Command--Navy Boot Camp.  While it would be easy and trite to carry on about his childhood, I do not wish to tarnish this day that he truly enters into the service of the Navy and the United States or this decision he made as a man.

He worked for months to get into the proper physical condition, once he enlisted.  Via his mom, he said in one of his letters that 'he'd finally found his place.'

While this is the first step on a long journey, I believe that he is up to any challenge.  More importantly, he KNOWS that he is up to any challenge.

Not the easy path or the expected one, but I am so proud he has found his true path.

That must be one realistic tattoo

So a guy with a tattoo of gun on his stomach had a bunch of heavily armed gendarmes make a house call because the idjits cutting trees for a local utility couldn't tell the difference between a two dimensional work of body art and a real three dimensional firearm.  Turns out the police were cool, but it could have been interesting for the guy.

They don't show a picture of the tattoo in the article, which is too bad.  They also don't give the name of the guy's tattoo artist, which is a bigger shame.  I know more than a bit about body art, being a somewhat avid collector myself, and if there's an artist out there who can do a piece that realistic, I'd like to peruse his or her portfolio.

ETA:  found a picture here. Not a sterling tattoo--seen a lot better.  Tree guys must have been near-sighted or the sun was in their eyes.

I now know why I will remain a pink monkey

To be a pink monkey is to stand out from the rest of the crowd of brown monkeys.  I guess I've reached the stage in life where I have figured out that to be a brown monkey that you have to be covered in their shit in order to not stand out.  Not really willing to do that anymore.

Caught the beginning of 'Bite the Bullet'

Did not know that a movie existed with the following cast:  Gene Hackman, James Coburn, Jan Michael Vincent, Dabney Coleman, and Candice Bergin.  Loved this scene where JMV was playing, well, JMV and gets the snot kicked out of him by Hackman.

So let's make the assessment tool worth nothing.....

The College Board is going to overhaul the SAT test (again).  Last time they added an essay portion in an attempt to keep up with ACT.  Point of fact, studies are showing that neither test is really a good indicator, but rank in class, no matter the school, is a better predictor of college success.  But then you couldn't have a billion dollar industry based on test prep preying on high school students, could you??

In any case, their proposed changes will essentially render what was a mildly useful assessment instrument to be totally useless.  They are once again removing the essay portion, they are dumbing down the vocabulary, and there is going to be no penalty for wrong answers.

No wonder over 20 percent of four year colleges (and growing ) are opting out of requiring the SAT as part of their admissions package.

Benchmade found!

I lost my Benchmade Mini-Barrage pocket knife several months ago.  So long ago that I replaced it with a Benchmade Emissary at least four months ago.

I think that New Cat hooked the pocketknife out from under the couch and batted it to the middle of the floor.  Either that or the House Gremlins finally accepted my offer of bacon for the return of the knife because I have moved the couch and looked under it several times in search of this particular knife.

To hedge my bets, I better make a trip to the bacon store......

Murphy's Law has his Saturday Man Movie...

Argh! Not feeling good again.....

At least with a sore throat, it's taken my voice down an octave and given it that 'whiskey and cigarette' kind of timbre so I could start my phone sex business, if I wanted.

On normal days, the bluetooth in my car can't pick up my voice since it's so squeaky.

Of course this happens when I was going to take some time anyway--nice to be able to stay close to my Kleenex!

Don't you think she looks tired??

Some interesting allegations about Hillary Clinton, namely that she's the one who authorized the raid on the Koresh compound in 1993, utilizing her influence within the White House, much as it is alleged that Valerie Jarrett is actually making most of Obama's 'decisions'.  Whole bunch of other stuff too.  Check out "Secret #8".

These are via the National Enquirer.  Before you roll your eyes, remember that this is the publication that blew the whistle on John Edwards/Rielle Hunter when none of the 'mainstream' press would touch that particular scandal since the MSM was trying to protect Edwards and the Dems.

Guessing that Doctor Who fans are everywhere--even political 'strategists' must be fans.....

There is an episode of Doctor Who, The Christmas Invasion, where the Doctor, in retaliation for PM Harriet Jones' destruction of a retreating enemy, promises to bring her down with just six words.  Those words to her assistant:  "Don't you think she looks tired?"

Days later, she's forced to resign over rumors of her decline in health and mental state.  Interestingly enough, there are headlines starting regarding Hillary Clinton and her possible health issues that might preclude her from running in 2016.  Wonder if those rumors started on the Dem side or the Republican side?  I can't imagine that Liberals would really appreciate Doctor Who, so I'm guessing it came from the other side.

Watch the below and instead of Harriet Jones' vehement denials of health troubles, put in the words "What difference, at this point, does it make?!" and picture Hillary.
