Problems with the Press

I was reading Tam's posting on the sickening Polanski case and how Hollywood and the press have been complicit in defending child rape and something occurred to me. The press stopped being the "Hounds of News" when they started putting pretty talking heads up on the screen instead of actual reporters. With 'newsanchors' basically being actors who couldn't find work in Hollywood, then that co-opts the folks who are supposed to investigate and report the news into folks who merely parrot the opinions of the writers rather than actually put thought into the words that are coming out of their mouths. When there are few sources of news, then any inaccuracies will be repeated as nauseum. It also allows those who want to shape opinion a perfect field in which to do so.
