Standing up for the courage of your convictions, or not...

Nicki, over at The Liberty Zone, has a post up about a kerfluffle in Pittsburg, KS regarding a 'God Bless America' banner that has been in place on the Pittsburg Post Office since 9/11.  It was paid for out of the private pockets of the postal workers, some of whom were military and others.

Well, some asshat (most likely a new hire at Pittsburg State, if I were a betting woman) decides to call the Freedom From Religion Foundation (a Wisconsin-based group) and have them pitch such a bitch that the locals had to take the banner down.  The local populace is now fighting back at this by having replicas printed and are placing them on private businesses, fences, etc. all over town.  I definitely applaud this action.

But one of the things that really gets me about this is that the twatwaffle who started this brouhaha is still unknown--he or she is hiding behind the FFRF and has never been publicly identified.  He or she did not have the strength of his or her convictions to go to the post office and complain and thus become known.

And so the locals do not know who this person is and thus do not have the ability to choose whether or not they want to have anything to do with this troglodytic waste of oxygen.   Being that the FFRF is an out of state concern, I think that whatever 'local' started this should have some skin in the game s/he started.  It must be nice to just be able to sic the brute squad on someone and not have to bear any consequences for your actions.

Affecting Middle America through 'Special Investigations'

So the CBS Nightly news has been doing 'exposes' on charities who seem to be funding themselves more than helping the folks they are supposed to be.  Tonight's target was the Wounded Warrior Project whose administrative costs are along the lines of 95%, and only 5% going to the wounded warriors.  This was pretty common knowledge, I think and was covered by a CBS affiliate in April of 2015 so it's not like this was news-news.

On CBS This Morning yesterday, was a story about PACs scamming donors.  The PAC they investigated was called the Conservative StrikeForce.

Okay, these stories are true.  That said, I'm wondering when they are going to start hitting some Liberal charities and PACs.  Let's just say I am skeptical that they will do so.

Honestly, I think that this is an effort to undermine Middle America's confidence in their charities and, most especially, in giving money to conservative causes and political action committees.  The mainstream media is wanting to dry up funds to conservative causes to make it easier for their candidates and causes.

Yes, I do feel like I need to put my tin foil hat on....  almost.  But I don't think I am wrong.

My other dog imitation....

Brigid has a post up about specialized dog words.

She thought of me while surfing etsy and finding catnip joints that would be just the gift for Goldie-cat.

I do think that Bob would be more likely to bogart the 'nip in the corner of the basement (yes, that is a sheep he's with).......

But it did lead my train of thought to the person who pulled off the perfect stoned dog imitation (or dog imitation while stoned).

Of course, it is Oddball in Kelly's Heroes....

Sellin' some knives

Local gun show today. Friend of ours is a knife dealer and when he's there, we'll stop off to give him time to run to the restroom and grab something to eat. Selling knives is fun for me to do and dudes dig chicks who dig knives. Before he got back today, I sold a Benchmade, a CRKT, and two of the cheapies-but-pretties he has. Sold a pink one by commenting that it matched a girl's hair (and it did). Don't think I could go on the circuit again, but it's nice to do every once in a while. Quote of the day: The bitterness of a a cheap knife breaking lasts much longer than the joy of getting something on the cheap.

Academy Awards brouhaha

So, the Oscars are getting the hashtag of 'too white' because no black actor was nominated in the major categories and 'Out of Compton' didn't get a nomination. Okay, but no Star Wars picture ever got a major category nomination nor any of the actors in any of those movies either. So now the people of color know what the geeks and nerds went through year after year. Al Sharpton and the usual race-baiting suspects are calling for a boycott. To the best of my recollection, no one has been watching anyway, so I don't think anyone will notice if a few million more folks miss that particular self-congratulatory circle jerk of an 'awards show' that the Oscars have become.

There are some songs I can just relate to...

Soldier of Fortune by Blackmore's Night.  Actually written when Ritchie Blackmore was a Rock god instead of a Mandolin god.

And the Deep Purple version...

I've tended towards being a nomad during my adult years (a nice mirror for my first seven as well, moving with my dad). So this song always touches a chord in me.

Gun Show, Fun Show

As Mr B said, the Indy 1500 gun show was packed.  I don't think we've ever been there with the line going around the corner like that.  I picked up a few things that I caught my fancy--a new Gun Toten Mamas purse from Hiding Hilda.  Even if I don't carry in the bag, the one I got is a good organizer bag and it gives me a carry option.  Extended some credit to a young friend who came with us so she could get a bullet ring there too--she'll hand me $5/week for 7 weeks to pay me back, and I will hold her to it.

Giving kudos to Hiding Hilda's husband--he went out and walked the line of folks waiting to get in, handing out cards to the women in the group and giving their location in the building.  I probably would have walked past them otherwise once I got in.

Saw Brad of Brad's Knives--he was selling like crazy.  Picked up a Hogue Elishewitz from him since the house has eaten one of my Benchmade mini-barrages as well as my first gen Emissary (pretty sure we have gremlins).  I'll have to change the pocket clip around for tip-up carry, but at least it can be done on this one.

Saw Tam for a few minutes.  Sounds like from the comment she left over at Mr Bs that she had a good day.  Think she was just enjoying watching the world go by as much as selling.

Michael Williamson was also there--had an interesting collection of stuff from WWII as well as some of his books.  Mr B bought Freehold for another friend that made the trip with us.  Michael promised some more books now that he has time to write because he's been banned from Facebook... again.  I lost track at around banning number 12, but he says he's over 30 bannings at this point. Not seeing that being banned from Facebook is necessarily a negative thing--knowing your enemies is always a good thing.

Had lunch at Claddagh Pub before hitting the road for home.  All in all, a nice day!

Adele songs are probably something that should have a trigger warning....

Talking to my sister this morning and she thinks that any Adele song should be proceeded by a trigger warning for anyone who has made a bad life relationship decision.

From SNL:

It's totally a chick thing....

In Memorium

So David Bowie and Alan Rickman pass within a few days of each other. David Bowie's music was, to a large extent, part of the soundtrack of my high school and college years; I truly enjoyed Alan Rickman's work, starting of course with Die Hard.  However, my favorite Alan Rickman movie was "The January Man" with Kevin Kline.  So, the In Memorium videos...

That noise coming out of congressmen's base....

That 'noise' would be the opinions of the constituents and Congress' job is to listen to them.  I'm usually not masochistic enough to listen to the State of the Union, but Mr B turned it on.

My takeaways:

He just handed Biden his Golden Parachute by putting him in charge of curing cancer?!?
He would like to revamp our entire electoral process.  He wants people voting, but doesn't want any citizenship verifications.  Makes it easier to gin everything up.
He is still using those funny pronunciations.

He came really close to just declaring himself and Congress as the rulers of the country.  Pretty sure he'd like to.

Bottom line:
Dude doesn't have a clue.  Talking about how we don't get attacked directly when Iran just took 10 of our sailors prisoner today.
Loves the word 'unarmed'.

The way he finished up, I kind of expected a rock star "Thank you DC".

Really glad this was the last one.

I get the vote for Best Aunt Ever

My nephew was home this past week before getting deployed overseas.  He is finishing his Navy Air Rescue training and I found out that he was lacking a good pocketknife.  With some consultation with Brad of Brad's Knives, I chose the ZT 0562.  No speed assist, not automatic and a good blade length.  Solid knife.

He was pleased.

Not a whole lot aunts come up with this type of gift.

Friday, January 8, 2016

Yep, I sure did....

Having grown up with Smokey and the Bandit, Cannonball Run, Dukes of Hazzard and any number of television shows that featured high speed chases and having done my share of thrilling car chases in the country, complete with taking cars off the end of trestle bridges, this pic did bring back some memories.  I definitely would have thought about it but I know that stopping in such a short space is the kicker...

God bless the 1980's

Both the poster and the video are shamelessly borrowed from Angel over at The Lonely Libertarian.  I hadn't seen the video in a while and I laughed the whole time.  She posted it on New Year's Day and have to say it was a great way to start the year.

I do know some folks who jump out of perfectly good planes as part of their workday and can almost hear some of them singing this.....

Speedos and raincoats... no wonder this video and song are cult favorites.

An executive order is not a law

The complicit press once again is in cahoots--the liberals' modus operandi of changing the definition of a word (started with Bill Clinton and the meaning of 'is', I think) is happening yet again.  I read that Obama is confident that his new 'gun laws' won't violate the 2nd Amendment.

Well, since anything he does without Congress is an Executive Order and not a Law, then technically he's right.  However, his Executive Orders probably will violate the 2nd Amendment.  Unfortunately Regulations created in response to his Executive Orders will also violate the 2nd Amendment as well. The devil is going to be in the details, just like the EPA, overreach because Solyndra contracts. Weasel wording at its finest.  And the press is echoing whatever he says.

Kind of like Representatives and Senators being told that they are supposed to govern, rather than represent the Will of the People.  No wonder things in DC have gone to 'poop'.

High point of the day....

So I'm not sure what this exactly says about my job when the high point of my day was crafting and sending an email that used the word 'poop' in it, legitimately.  Our computer system has a Guest request option.  It asks for the relationship to the requestor as well as the name, address, and email address of the person for whom access is being requested.

Apparently the requestor was having a bad day or was resentful of having to make the request because the relationship was listed as 'poop', the first name was 'poop' and, much to no-one's surprise, the last name was also given as 'poop'.  The address and email address looked okay though.

My response, when the request was forwarded to me:

We are in receipt of the below request for Guest Access.  Please note that we do not have 'poop' as an option for a relationship to create in the system.

We will need to  contact the person via the email provided to confirm that their first and last names are 'poop' to ensure that our records are accurate for federal and state reporting purposes.

I have cc'd XXXXXXX on this email to help guide you through the access process and what data our office needs to successfully create these linkages in the system.

Best Regards,

I did take an inordinate amount of glee in writing this, besides, anytime a person gets to use the word poop, especially in an official capacity, ya gotta laugh....

A New Year, A New Hope....

Those who know me, know this past year has been one of challenges, personal and professional.  Here's hoping the New Year will see some of those things resolved and good things happening.

My main resolution for the new year is to reach back when people reach out.

Thanks to those who continued to reach out--just knowing you're there makes all of the difference in the world.

Oh heck, I'm a Star Wars purist....
