Oh... one of THOSE days, eh? Hope things get better!
Problem with being a non-PhD in a PhD world.
Oh I am SO there... sigh... it TRULY sucks!
Rant on.Actually had one 'senior' faculty member tell me that I need to treat the faculty like children to get them to do things and he's right. There are 42 of them, however, and none of them feel that decades of actual experience in a profession count for anything. I've begun to lose my faith in higher education as an institution because of these self-important snowflakes.Rant off.
As someone who is a full-time "professor" in higher ed... I can truly say many of the dumbest people I know have the most letters lined up after their names... I probably are one too...- - -B ullS tuff- - -M oreS tuff- - -P iledH igher and D eeperMost of the content and technology I teach was learned in the workforce as it didn't exist when I received my undergrad and graduate degrees and as far as my day-to-day common sense... that came off the farm...@Old NFO: I tell my wife daily the world is a lucky place 'cause God didn't give me the "ZAP" power... I'd probably start at the top and work my way down...Dann in Ohio
Dann, there are some faculty who are truly dedicated to the students. Those seem to be the ones who actually worked outside of academe (and not as a waiter/waitress during grad school either). It might just be the place where I am now or something about their particular discipline(s) that makes them particularly small people. Let's just say that I've never had to go to human resources in 20 years of my career but after getting screamed at for doing my job (the second time, mind) I was forced to take action. They suck and it's affected my whole attitude about my career path, which sucks too.
