Well Sung, Martina McBride

I'm watching the pre-NASCAR show and just saw Martina McBride sing the National Anthem.  No yodeling, followed the script, a couple of trills during notes that are held anyway at the end.  Beautiful, reverent, and touching.  Well done!  I'll try to find a video of it later!

ETA:  Having all of the fans stand on the third lap in honor of Dale Earnhardt Senior, was quite touching.

Not a McBride fan, but I now love her.

Before she started I said "Please sing it as written." And she did.

That was beautiful and brought a tear to my eye. God bless her.

The NASCAR fans will riot if the singer fucks it up. Some things are sacred to people. The National Anthem is sacred to those of us that like NASCAR. Like the Flag and the Constitution and such, we hold certain things sacred.

And we won't let you fuck with it.

VI: It was really nice to have someone singing for the honor of the country and not themselves.

And Mr. B is right, the fans demand that kind of singing and won't accept a yodeling substitute.

It was a good race with that as the start.

Good for the Woods Brothers. Been 10 years for them.

And if Jr had stayed in, he could have pushed my boy Tony to a win...

It was a great race, all the way around. And Bayne earned it at the end by shutting Edwards out.

"shutting Edwards out."

w00t!!

And professional sports game that has a singer OTHER than a country singer do the National Anthem has rockes in its head.

VI: It was a lovely moment. The kid just slid right over and locked him out. I can't stand Edwards so it made the move that much sweeter. I was clapping and cheering.

Borepatch: Gimme a country music singer over any bubble-gun-pop-warbler any day.

MwC: It is always a bit tough talking likes and dislikes for drivers with other fans. They don't always line up, naturally. For Edwards I could take him or leave him. My son (14) has been rooting for him for a while. So naturally I was semi-seriously "against" him.

But then noticing how physically threatening he likes to be when he doesn't think there are cameras around - I decided to add him to the dislike pile. Been in that pile for several years, now.

For me, it was nice to watch a "non-Johnson" race.

Enjoy the Phoenix race next week.

Sorry VI: just saw this. You're right--discussing a like or dislike of a particular driver is something that generally should be avoided, like religion or politics. But since I've discussed both on the blog, I figured I might as well cross that line too... ;-)

I thought it was a great race and as long as they are on regular television, we'll be able to watch!

(Nothing to be sorry about) I hate that ESPN sucks up half of the season. Their coverage is sub-par.

You are good to watch up to May 15th or so.

Boogity!
