Regardless if Yamamoto actually uttered those lines, it was the response to the attack on Pearl Harbor.
The United States, which had previously been steering clear of the war that began in Europe in 1939, woke up and began putting all of its resources into the war effort. Those in my generation and after have absolutely no idea about the voluntary deprivations our citizens endured in order to put the full effort of this country into winning what came to be known as World War II. From flour and gasoline rationing, to women taking the places of the men outside of the house, to schoolchildren learning the silhouettes of air planes in the night skies, the world changed at that moment.
Please join me in remembering and honoring those who were lost in that heinous attack on December 7, 1941.
